水泥枕木也叫水泥轨枕，也就是常说的混凝土轨枕，内有钢筋，是轨道上铺的，当然也有木质的，但成本太高，所以大多数用水泥枕木的较多。水泥轨枕按连接方法分为U型环和螺栓压板两种。

水泥枕木是钢轨的支座，它除承受钢轨传来的压力并将其传给道床以外，还起着保护钢轨位置和轨距的作用。当列车经过时，它可以适当变形以缓冲压力，但列车过后还得尽可能恢复原状。
